Nyatuh, The Becoming Scarf

Inspired by the legend of Cikaputrian from Banten, this work explores the concept of nyatuh—a moment when the human body merges with nature through a cosmic transformation. Within Sundanese–Banten cosmology, nyatuh is not merely understood as a curse, but as a shift in existence from the human realm into a mythological landscape. The motifs of black serpents, stone formations, and lake waters are presented as symbols of metamorphosis, memory, and geological time: the serpent embodies subterranean energy, regeneration, and the guardianship of sacred space, while stone and water function as natural archives preserving the traces of human stories. The scarf is conceived as a portable narrative field, where mythology, ecology, and history intertwine through the language of contemporary textile design.
